Assoc. Prof. Dr Zaini Abdullah has been named as the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) of UiTM, as from 16th October 2008.

Dr Zaini brings a wealth of experience to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor’s office with over twenty years as an academician, and having held various administrative and management roles. Originally trained in Business Management, Dr Zaini made the transition to UiTM after a spell working for KONTENA NASIONAL BHD and PERNAS SIME-DARBY shipping.

Dr Zaini began his career as a lecturer in the Faculty of Business Administration in 1986 before working up the academic ranks to the Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration. Between 2003 and 2007, Dr Zaini served in various positions of increasing responsibility, including serving as a fellow in the Institute of Knowledge Advancement (INKA). In 2003, he assumed the role of Deputy Director of Centre for Asean Studies. In 2007, Dr Zaini was promoted and assumed responsibilities as the Assistant Vice-Chancellor to the newly configurated UiTM International Centre (UIC).

A native of Butterworth, Dr Zaini began his tertiary education in UiTM. He later pursued a degree in Business Administration, majoring in Transportation and Logistics at the University of Western Illinois, USA, and obtained his MBA from the same university in 1994. His doctoral qualifications in TQM based performance Management was gained from a twinning programme conducted by the University of Memphis, USA and Universiti Utara Malaysia.

He is married to Faridah Hanim and has five children.

Dr. Alan Montague is the Program Director of the Masters of Human Resource Management at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) University.

Dr. Montague Joined RMIT in 1997 to manage the Apprenticeship and Traineeship program. Before this Alan was a senior manager with a Federal Government Department, with expertise in government employment programs, education development, and the labour market. Alan’s research has focussed on to skill/vocational shortages, government policies relating to the links between education and industry, employment/education program policy development, and critical commentary on corporate ethics through the lens of human resource management (HRM). His research interest has extended to the impact of artificial intelligence, automation, and technology on a changing labour market.

He will be one of the keynote speakers covering the following topic based on a paper he is writing:

Consternation or Composure: Perennial Change induced by Artificial Intelligence - the impact on Regional Labour Markets, Jobs, and the Increased Importance of Human Resource Management Professionals.


Professor Alan R Nankervis is a Professor of Human Resource Management in the School of Management, Curtin Business School, Curtin University. He has more than thirty years’ academic experience at three universities in Australia, and in the UK, Canada, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand, together with consultancies in Indonesia, China and Thailand. He was the Director of the Sydney Graduate School of Management, Research Director and Head of HRM at Curtin University. He is currently the Chair of the Australian Human Resources Institute’s (AHRI) National Program Accreditation Committee.

Alan has published more than 150 books, book chapters, international journal articles and conference papers for publishers such as Routledge, Palgrave Macmillan, Cambridge University Press, Pearson Education and Cengage Learning; and journals including Personnel Review, Thunderbird International Business Review, Asia Pacific Business Review and Asia Pacific Journal of Human Resources. His research interests include the links between performance review and firm performance, comparative Asian HRM/Management, services management, and skills development in the Asia Pacific.

Alan’s most recent book is New Models of HRM in China and India (Routledge), co-authored with Professors Malcolm Warner (Cambridge University), Fang Lee Cooke (Monash University) and Samir Chattejee (Curtin University).
